[image: One Less > Car] Four years ago the City of Baltimore conceived a Master Bike Plan. Among its components is a program that includes the periodic closing of selected streets, for a morning, for exclusive use by pedestrians, cyclists and skaters (ciclovia program=the streets become your parks). *This email informs you of an upcoming meeting to make this plan a reality - this is an opportunity to make Baltimore an amazing unique environment and we need your involvement!* Many cities are organizing these ciclovias. Last October, the City and the Roland Park Civic League carried out a successful ciclovia field test. Approximately 1000 Baltimoreans participated. In December, ten City Council members co-sponsored a resolution calling on the City to implement the ciclovia program. The program has been named *B’More Streets for People. * Now it’s up to us to demonstrate that the people of Baltimore are ready and willing to make B’More Streets for People a success. Four Sunday morning ciclovias are planned for Summer 2010. About 15 miles of Roland Avenue, University Parkway, 33rd Street and possibly North Avenue will be included in the expanded route. We are counting on neighborhood organizations to spread the word and to make it all happen. We will need about 20-25 community volunteers per mile to act as safety monitors. Homeowners, businesses and churches along the route must be informed and asked to participate. *An initial stakeholders meeting will take place on March 25, 2010, 7-8:30 PM, at the Baltimore Hostel, 17 Mulberry Street.* Free street parking is easily available. One Less Car invites you to join this grassroots movement to make summer ciclovias a new Baltimore institution. Representatives of some 14 neighborhood associations are expected to attend. Please spread the word and plan to attend.Contact us for more information. We look forward to seeing you on 25 March! Additional B’More Streets information after next announcement.
